UTILITY LOCATE TECHNICIAN

JOB DESCRIPTION

GeoPacific Consultants Ltd. is a geotechnical engineering firm located in Vancouver, BC. Incorporated in December of 1985, we have completed over 15,000 projects in the Metro Vancouver area. Our aim is to provide a range of specialized geotechnical engineering solutions delivered on time and on budget. We are committed to quality, responsive and innovative service, appropriate to the varied requirements of our clients. We are currently seeking to add a utility locate technician to our team for a full time position in our head office.

The position will entail a mixture of office and field work, with the employee utilizing tools such as GPRs, EM scanners, geophones and other geophysics devices to gather information, solve problems, and meet client demands. Tasks will include:

Identify and locate underground utilities and provide clearance for sub-surface investigations using geophysical and physical methods

· Conduct pavement assessments to evaluate structural design requirements

· Perform concrete scans to identify reinforcing steel

· Retrieve as-built utility or building information from private owners, utility commissions, municipal databases, or other GIS services

· Process data to prepare detailed CAD as-built drawings for construction projects

· Write detailed technical memos, letters, and reports

· Schedule and coordinate field work with other technicians and co-consultants.

The successful applicant will enjoy working outdoors in a fast-paced technical work environment. They should be confident working with and maintaining electronic geophysical equipment. The applicant will have the ability to combine information collected through visual, physical, and geophysical means to develop an understanding of the site conditions and effectively communicate that information verbally or through written documents. The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to complete their work accurately and efficiently, while effectively managing their time to meet deadlines.

It is expected that the successful applicant will meet the following qualifications:

· A Diploma in a technical-related field

· Excellent communication skills; both written and oral

· A solid understanding of geophysical principals and equipment

· Fundamental knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and AutoCAD

· A valid Canadian driver’s license and own their own vehicle
